Jessica Jansasoy about page

Hi, I’m Jessica!

[An SEO copywriter for SaaS & B2B companies in Las Vegas]

Yes! People actually live in Las Vegas. And sure, I have a lot of stories to tell from here. That’s probably why people move here for “a couple of years” and then never leave. Everyone loves a good story, and that’s my case too. I believe content shouldn’t be boring, even content with an — apparently — all technical background like SEO. If content has the purpose of someone to read it, why not make it funny or sprinkle it with emotion?.

But it’s not all about emotion either

SEO shouldn’t be misleading …or have malicious intent

When I was younger and had permission to use the desktop computer (huge boxes at that time), I liked to do research. Research the most important questions a 10-year-old could ask herself. But I was always at the edge of my seat when clicking a link. I knew, from experience, that some pages would redirect me to a page with nothing to do with what I was searching for. And I was never fast enough to click the back button. That’s a memoir from Google’s old days that will stick with me forever.

I’m often told by my colleagues that I have “cute” writing

You could say I started copywriting along with my career at the university. Back then, there was a stereotype going around about the freshmen and even the sophomores:

Engineers are poor writers...

Because engineers only care about math and science. Communication is vital in every type of business, so I wasn’t going to stay behind. Papers, projects, presentations, and even emails. The format didn’t matter. As long as it was written word, I was thorough in crafting it.

The professors were like my clients, so I continuously changed my tone and style to better fit their expectations. Still, keeping in mind what I wanted to communicate from the beginning to end of every piece. Soon, whenever there was a group project, it was up to me to edit the written part and make it professional and clear. My colleagues started saying they liked my writing because it was cute.

And so…

I stuck to the cute writing for four years. Making complex engineering topics clear and concise for a 14-year-old that wasn’t interested in engineering at all. (Yes, my little sister was my proofreader at that time)

Then…

At the end of my career came the final “copy assignment”, a national exam in Colombia that ran tests ranging from quantitative reasoning to written communication. The written communication test was the only one with its own time aside, 40 minutes, and also the first one. I had to write an essay answering a question made by the Ministry of Education. It was clear who the client was, and so, I started writing and nailed the essay with a score of 300/300 along with congratulations from my thesis director.

Now, some years later, I realize my colleagues said cute, but what they meant was engaging, persuasive, and relevant.

How I became an SEO specialist

After finishing my bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, I came back to the US in 2019 to build my life in Las Vegas. But little did I know it was going to be the start of a global pandemic. Jobs were scarce for a fresh graduate and I did something I never thought I’ll do…

I became a dealer at a casino in Las Vegas.

Yeah, I can confidently say I experienced Vegas from its core. But while throwing cards part-time, I used the time I had left to get my Professional Certificate in Search Engine Optimization from the University of California, Davis.

In 2021, and after being a freelance SEO copywriter for some time, I decided it was time to leave the casino. I wanted to move into something bigger, and now I can help tech companies with their SEO content. To drive more traffic so they can get more sales. And at the same time, help people find what they’re looking for without being misled.

A little about me

  • I was born in New York City, but raised in Colombia since I was a baby. So, naturally I have a strong accent and my primary language is Spanish.

  • I learned English mostly when I was doing my bachelor's degree. As my university wanted to get the international accreditation ABET for STEM careers, they used US outlines. As a result, all the textbooks, exams, projects, slides and some lectures were in English.

  • I didn’t enjoy being a casino dealer. The pay was good, but it drained too much energy from me.

  • I love reading Agatha Christie’s mystery books. I don’t know how this woman could write over 100 pieces. Truly remarkable!

  • If I’m not reading, writing or learning something new, I’m probably eating. I love food.
